Building Codes and Standards Committee
Committee Chair Jack Butler is appearing in front of the Florida Building Commission's Admin Technical Advisory Committee, asking for a non-binding advisory opinion regarding the local amendments adopted by Broward County, FL.
Broward has adopted a code other than the Florida Building Code, the South Florida Building Code, which precludes our unlicensed members from practicing their profession.
Jack also confirmed that the International Code Council concurs with AIBD's interpretation of the two key phrases that have caused licensure issues across the country, which are in the same sentence of the IRC: “special conditions” and “additional construction documents.”
Anticipating getting nowhere with the Florida Building Commission, Jack has contacted the authors of Florida House Bills 267 and 481, asking if they would be willing to amend their legislation to include definitions for "Local Administrative Amendments," "Special Conditions," and "Residential Design Professional."

Conference Committee
Chairman Ted Hake presented the proposed contract for the 2024 AIBD Annual Meeting and Design & Build Conference venue. After carefully reviewing the agreement submitted by the Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk-Downtown, committee members Traci Kelley and Brandon Clokey recommend its approval.
The staff is seeking a few more minor tweaks and clarifications. The Board of Directors will consider the final proposed contract on Wednesday. The tentative dates are July 25-27, 2024, with the ARDA Dinner at the event's conclusion on Saturday, July 27
Have a triumphant week!
