Call for Entries: The 2025 American Residential Design Awards is Open!

Entries are due June 9, 2025

"ARDA" is the AIBD’s premier award program exhibiting design excellence in the residential building industry.

It spotlights the nation’s most creative and innovative residential designers, builders, remodelers, architects, developers, land planners, and interior designers.

Tiny homes for local community shelter

Studio 804, a yearlong course for Master of Architecture students at the University of Kansas, allows students to design and build a complex structure under Professor Dan Rockhill’s guidance. In 2021, 18 students constructed a temporary housing project in Lawrence, Kansas, addressing the needs of families and individuals experiencing homelessness during COVID-19. They partnered with AIBD Industry Partner Atlas Roofing Corporation to provide sustainable, energy-efficient building materials.

Homeowners are not leveraging available technology to reduce energy costs and emissions.

Schneider Electric's latest white paper, "Evolving Home Energy Consumption," surveys 13,000 people across 11 countries on energy efficiency and sustainability at home. While 70% value reducing their carbon footprint, most focus on small actions like turning off lights, which only account for 5% of energy bills. Less than half take impactful steps like adjusting ambient temperature, which represents over 50% of household energy use.

NCBDC opens the door for agreeing to provide testing in Oklahoma

The National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC) may agree with states, associations, or other entities to administer the certification for their programs.

The AIBD, Central Oklahoma Chapter is working to introduce legislation establishing a Building Design Contractors license issued through the OK Construction Industry Licensing Board.
