The Superpower Designers and Architects Have to Improve Job Site Productivity

The productivity index of the US economy has been rising steadily since the 1940s, but the construction industry has not followed this trend.

In fact, it has been declining at a similar pace.

Why is this the case, and what can be done to reverse it?

An industry study suggests that one simple solution is to use color-printed construction drawings, which can enhance clarity and reduce errors.

Recent Committee Activities

Board of Directors
​The board meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
​CLICK HERE for this past month's agenda and the minutes of the last meeting.
Our leadership made the following decisions.

  • A partnership agreement with Chicago Build 2024 was approved. This is the third year AIBD has been a supporting organization. AIBD will be promoting the event via email and social media, and in turn, the show will provide AIBD with an opportunity to present on stage and distribute magazines and other promotional perks.
  • The Embassy Suites Riverfront Downtown in San Antonio, Texas, was chosen as the venue for the 2024 Annual Meetings and the Summer Design & Build Conference. The dates are July 25, 26, & 27.

Membership Committee

  • The committee met with staff to receive the November recruitment and retention reports. Total membership is down 23 members from last month and 290 members year-over-year.

Your Expertise Needed for the American Institute of Building Designer's Certified Professional Building Designer® (CPBD™) Job Analysis survey.

This study aims to identify and validate the tasks performed by a building design professional, as well as the important knowledge and skills required to effectively perform this role using evidence-based and common practices in developing and maintaining certification assessments and programs. The survey results will allow AIBD to ensure their certification reflects current practices among building design professionals.
​
The survey completion time is estimated at 15 to 20 minutes. Information collected will only be used for research, accreditation (e.g., ISO/IEC 17024:2012), and validation purposes. The survey will close on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 9 pm ET.​
​
