Recent Committee Activities

Building Codes Committee

Chairman Jack Butler proposed an administrative amendment to the Broward County [Florida] Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).

Currently, the County requires all plans, even for single-family homes, to be prepared by a registered design professional.

After two years and a failed lawsuit, BORA is beginning to recognize that it may be in violation of the law, and that Jack is not giving up.

Last Thursday, BORA reviewed two local code amendments on the issue—one from Jack and one from the BORA attorney, which, in our view, is an improvement, but still violates the law.

The next step is a public hearing on August 14, 2025. Jack is also challenging the BORA's policies with the Florida Building Commission, with a hearing set for August 12th.

Have a triumphant week.
