Updates to the D&B San Antonio Schedule

Hello Reader,

We have a few quick updates about next week's Design & Build San Antonio.

Thursday (July 25) during the Day

Leadership Luncheon

The time has been moved thirty minutes later.

AIBD Fellow Larry Gilland is preparing a presentation, so we've made it a "working lunch." We don't know what's on his heart to share. But here, there might just be CEs for us.

This slight adjustment affects the board meeting, which will also start a half hour later than originally published.

Thursday during the evening

Compass Club Event

Unfortunately, we won't be able to take a riverboat ride to the 1870 Anton Wulff House. Our executive director is challenged when it comes to reading a map. Between the hotel and King Williams Park is a dam. Oops!

We've scheduled a trolley instead. And, like the rest of the afternoon, we've moved back the pick-up time a little.

Remember, we're offering a walking tour of historic King William Street (1.0 E-CE). It's going to be hot, dress comfortably.

If you plan to attend but haven't already RSVPed, please do at AIBD.org/CompassClubEvent.

Friday and Saturday during the day

The Hauska lunch and learn has moved to Friday, and Draftrs will be presenting during lunch on Saturday.

This works better for our sponsors due to travel schedules, but it shifts the start times of the educational sessions slightly.

Here's the updated schedule (All times are CT):

Friday (July 26):

  • 8:30 am - Texas Institute of Building Design Annual Membership Meeting
  • 10:00 am - AIBD Annual Membership Meeting
  • 12:30 pm - D&B Café (i.e. lunch) sponsored by Hauska (1.0 P3-CE)
  • 2:30 pm - Is Your Business Exit-Ready? - Part 1 (1.0 P2-CE)
  • 4:00 pm - 60 Design Ideas in 60 Minutes (1.0 P3-CE)
  • 5:00 pm - D&B Happy Hour sponsored by TIBD

Saturday (July 27):

  • 9:30 am - Is Your Business Exit-Ready? - Part 2 (1.0 P2-CE)
  • 11:00 am - Elevate Your Design with High-Performance Wall Assemblies - Part 1 (1.0 P4-CE)
  • 12:30 pm - D&B Café sponsored by Draftrs (1.0 P1-CE)
  • 3:00 pm - Elevate Your Design with High-Performance Wall Assemblies - Part 2 (1.0 P4-CE)

Saturday evening:

Nothing's changed. The Awards Gala Reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. outside the Majestic Ballroom at the Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk Downtown hotel. Who knows when it will end?

Enjoy an open bar for the first couple of hours and a three-course plated dinner.

Attire is black-tie optional. Our Fellows will be sporting their white dinner jackets. You dress how you feel comfortable.

If you're receiving this email and you're not registered to attend in person, the hotel still has rooms (almost at our original rate), and there are still seats in the classroom.

But decide by midnight on Sunday. First thing Monday, we want to order enough food.

Want to attend remotely? You can buy your tickets up to the moment the first session begins, maybe a little after.

Get more information at AIBD.org/DesignBuildSanAntonio.

We should mention, there is no cost to attend Thursday's business meetings and Friday's membership meetings. If you are attending virtually, a separate link will be used for each meeting. Use the D&B San Antonio conference webpage to find the links, phone numbers, and meeting IDs.

Let us know what we can do to help you enjoy this event.
The A-Team

P.S. - In-person registration closes at 3:00 am PT on Monday. Get your tickets at AIBD.org/DesignBuildSanAntonio.

Can you name the exact window proportions for a Queen Anne without hunting through three different sources? Of course not. Nobody memorizes architectural minutiae—and yet every project demands it. You’ll spend hours tracking down grille patterns, color specifications, trim details, and hardware options specific to each era and style. Minutes add up. Days accumulate. Profit margins shrink. That’s changing right now. The Pattern Book Collection Continues With Andersen Windows & Doors, we’ve...

The January 2026 data points released yesterday by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics suggest a mixed but generally resilient environment for small residential design firms. While “Residential Building Design” isn’t a standalone category in this summary, its primary driver—Construction—added 33,000 jobs in January. Growth in construction typically signals a pipeline of new projects, although the primary driver appears to be nonresidential specialty trade contractors. While the residential...

Hello Reader, Congrats on surviving Monday and crushing Tuesday. Now, Wednesday beckons you to take a break and step into a pattern of discovery. Welcome to the Midweek Meander. Did someone forward this to you? Please consider subscribing. Practice doesn’t make perfect. It makes it permanent. That’s what my baseball coach, Bob Shaw, taught me. He used to say, “If you’re practicing it wrong, you’re only going to get good at doing it wrong” (or something like that). As I’ve gotten older, I’ve...
