Meet AIBD President Brandon Clokey at Chicago Build
|
AIBD is headed to Chicago Build 2026, and we invite you to join us as we bring the voice of residential building design to one of the Midwest’s leading design and construction events. Taking place October 28–29 at McCormick Place, Chicago Build brings together professionals from across the construction, architecture, and design community. This year, AIBD President Brandon Clokey will represent the Institute in a featured panel discussion, The Critical Role of Leadership in Driving Diversity and Inclusion. The discussion will examine how leaders can move beyond broad commitments and create real opportunities for advancement through mentorship, professional development, equitable leadership pathways, and intentional investment in people. It will also address barriers that continue to affect access to leadership for women, people of color, professionals with limited educational or financial resources, and other underrepresented individuals within the industry. For AIBD, this is more than a speaking opportunity. It is a chance to make sure residential building designers are included in a conversation that often happens around us rather than with us. Our profession plays a direct role in shaping homes, neighborhoods, and the way people live. Being present at Chicago Build allows AIBD to share that perspective with builders, architects, manufacturers, construction professionals, and other industry leaders—and to build relationships that help advance recognition of residential building design. Brandon will also serve as a Diversity in Construction Ambassador at Chicago Build, further strengthening AIBD’s visibility at the event and helping connect our work to larger conversations about access, opportunity, and representation across the building industry. AIBD will additionally host the Chicago Build Architecture Networking Event in the Networking Hub from 1:45–2:45 p.m. October 29th. This is an opportunity to meet fellow professionals, reconnect with peers, exchange ideas, and make the kinds of connections that can lead to stronger professional relationships and greater awareness of AIBD’s work. Whether you are interested in the panel, the networking event, or simply spending time with colleagues from throughout the region, Chicago Build offers a valuable opportunity to represent and support the residential building design profession. Chicago Build is complimentary to attend. Register through AIBD’s dedicated link and join us in Chicago on October 28–29. Register for complimentary admission: |

Hello Reader, Congrats on surviving Monday and crushing Tuesday. Now, Wednesday beckons you to take a break and step into a pattern of discovery. Welcome to the Midweek Meander. Did someone forward this to you? Please consider subscribing. I have to admit something: I am not "hip." If you had asked me a week ago who Virgil Abloh was, I would have given you a blank stare. We definitely didn’t hang in the same circles (Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Bella Hadid, Venus Williams, Joe Jonas,...
I’ve been working on a new members-only community inside AIBD.org. Residential designers regularly need advice that cannot be found in a manual or downloaded from a resource library. Sometimes you need to ask another designer how they handled a difficult detail, talk through a client or business problem, find someone to collaborate with, or simply see what other people in the profession are working on. That is what we are building for AIBD Members. I had help from a review panel made up of...
