Nuts & Bolts

Mistakes to Avoid When Using Your Car for Business and Claiming Deductions

Common mistakes include overclaiming business use, mixing methods or expenses, and failing to keep proper mileage and expense records. These errors often occur for both sole proprietors and solo LLCs, as they typically file on Schedule C.
To help with the recordkeeping, we've found a free IRS Printable Mileage Log Template.

What We're Up to

Help Us Make NAHB Chairman's Kickoff Party Unforgettable!

Join us in celebrating Bill Owens, the incoming NAHB Chairman, at the 2026 International Builders' Show (IBS)! The AIBD Board of Directors has approved a sponsorship for his kickoff party.

This sponsorship wasn’t part of our initial budget, so we’re inviting AIBD members to help us raise $5,000.

The sponsorship includes 15 tickets to this exclusive event. Members who donate $350 or more will receive one ticket, with an additional ticket for every $350 donated (e.g., $700 for two tickets).

We currently have seven tickets available.

If we don’t reach our goal, all funds raised will be redirected to another AIBD/NAHB initiative.

Have a triumphant week.

Did someone forward this to you? Please consider subscribing. With the holidays upon us, stories and traditions are everywhere. Four people gathered around a long wooden table.

Big news: Our first AIBD Members Helping Members Roundtable on December 11th was a resounding success! Designers came together, shared real challenges, and walked away with actionable insights from peers who've been in the trenches. The energy was proof that peer-to-peer connection is exactly what our community needs. Missed it? No problem. We're having another one. Here's the truth: we're tired of one-way webinars. Webinars exploded after 2020, and now most professionals spend hours every...
