Whether you have been part of AIBD for years, are considering membership, or simply share our commitment to better residential design, professional community matters. AIBD Professional Member, ARDA Winner, and Membership Committee Volunteer Michael Grant of Modern Rustic Homes (Ellijay, GA) recently shared this reflection with our volunteer team. We thought it captured something important about the value of connecting with people who understand the work we do: Membership is actually a VALUE equation. You get out of it what you put in. You are either invested looking for a return or you have enrolled to feel good that you belong. Belonging is important, but it is just a pat on the back if you are not invested. Actually membership can provide both value and belonging. That is having your cake and eating it too.
Back to value. I have seen good return on my membership value recently when I needed a recommendation for an out of state structural engineer. This happened again when I needed a builder rrecommendation The AAIBDmembers I contacted did not know me, BUT we were part of the same tribe. They WANTED to help and they did. It felt like family.
Another observation... it's like having a new sports car... it looks great, but if you don't drive it, where is the enjoyment...in the case of membership the exchange of ideas, the group problem solving and the camaraderie developed in those dialogs is like taking that new sports car on a road trip.
The recent Conference was was a great example of the reward on membership investment. I met new people that I enjoyed speaking with. I was inspired by the ARDA awards with new ideas, and gained new insight into the value add of the AIBD organization for advocacy and education. I think I will stick around for a good while...
At AIBD, we believe the best professional communities create space to learn, share experience, find trusted resources, and build relationships that extend beyond a single event or conversation. If you are already an AIBD member, we encourage you to get involved, make a new connection, and bring your perspective to the community. If you are not yet a member, we invite you to learn more about the people, programs, resources, and opportunities that make AIBD a home for residential design professionals. Have a great weekend, |

We came across a software bundle on Humble Bundle called "Complete Design Studio" and thought it was worth flagging for members — particularly those building out a secondary workstation, training junior staff, or looking for low-cost tools for early-stage concept work. To be clear upfront: AIBD has no affiliation with Humble Bundle, the American Cancer Society, or the software publisher (Richdale Ventures, formerly Ashampoo). We're simply sharing information we think could be useful. WHAT'S...
